Photo Caption:

This excellent historical photo at Little Sable Point Lighthouse shows the old garage. Inside was an old Jeep used at the lighthouse. Notice the broken concrete, which was always a problem at the lighthouse, probably because it was laid over sand. To the right over the hood of the old Pontiac is the chicken coop mentioned in the story. The road leads to Mears and Hart, which they called “civilization.” Jim recalled that his stepfather assigned him the duty of always washing the white stones by the garage. The right-hand garage door, slid to the right and inside was kept the chicken food, hand tools, ladders and lumber. The propane tanks in the left of the photograph fueled the “Fridge” and the Magic-Chef stove. Jim’s bike is parked in back of the car.
