A Sentimental Journey - Former Coast Guard Lighthouse Keeper Chester Growick was stationed at Sandy Hook Lighthouse during WWII (1941-1946). He was in charge of maintaining the lighthouse, although it was turned off from Dec. 8, 1941 until the end of the war. “I had to keep the lens polished and ready at all times, even though the light was off,” he told visitors.
