Photo Caption:

This International News Photo from the American Lighthouse Foundation Archives shows the lighthouse just seconds away from its end. The caption with the photo reads, “Obsolete Lighthouse Demolished. The recently obsolete Lighthouse, formerly known as Ponquogue Lighthouse, which years ago was a boon to Mariners, was demolished by the U.S. Coast Guard. Reminding one of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, portions of the base of the light were removed and later the light was set afire and destroyed.”
