Captain William Spear from a photograph made at the time of his retirement in 1939. He joined the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1902 and served as keeper at Brandywine Shoal Light and Egg Island Lights in New Jersey and then served at Deepwater Range Lights from 1908 until his retirement in 1939.
