Frank Davis Jr., from a photograph taken at Plymouth Light when he was 8 years old. He spent 18 years at the lighthouse where his father was keeper. At the young age of nine, Frank Jr. became a licensed lobster fisherman with 5 lobster pots of his own. At first he hauled his traps in a rowboat. Later, his father added a 5-horse power single cylinder engine to his boat. His dream of becoming a lighthouse keeper like his father was not to be. Later in life he wrote, "With the integration of the Lighthouse Service into the Treasury Department under the USCG, my life's ambition of becoming a lighthouse keeper was gone forever. I was disappointed to see it end. If I was at sea trying to get back to port in rough weather, I would rather there was a pair of friendly eyes watching over me, than an uncaring computer. Progress marches on, nevertheless, I just hope we aren't going to see a world where machines do everything."
