The trip to the lighthouse in a small fishing boat can only be accomplished at the time of slack water – the short period between flood and ebb tide – as at other times a current of eight to 10 knots prevails. Embarking and disembarking has to be done very quickly to avoid the boat being dashed to pieces on one of the many reefs.
