George Ralph Goddard, Sr., (1893-1983), like his father and grandfather before him, joined the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1916 while his father was still Superintendent of the Lighthouse District in Boston. He served on the Lighthouse Tenders Mayflower, Shrub, and Anenome and later became the keeper of the Chelsea Lighthouse Depot in Chelsea, MA.. He served in the Lighthouse Service until it was merged into the Coast Guard in 1939 and retired from the Coast Guard in 1951. Photograph courtesy of George R. Goddard, Jr.
