Photo Caption:

This photograph of Ralph Halsey Goddard, (1867-1919) son of Capt. George Halsey Goddard, was taken around 1890. Ralph followed in his father’s footsteps joining the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1887 as a Fireman on the Lighthouse Tender Armeria. He later became a lighthouse engineer and being truly a man who worked his way through the ranks, eventually was appointed Superintendent of the Lighthouse Service out of Boston, a position he held until his death in March of 1919.
