The Ship Shoal Lighthouse is shown here as it was being constructed at the foundry. The entire structure was assembled at the foundry, then taken apart and shipped to Louisiana to be rebuilt. Completed in 1860, it took nearly two years to build the lighthouse at its exposed ocean site.
