This hand drawn sketch of Curtis Island Lighthouse by New York Supreme Court Justice Lewis L. Fawcett, who was a personal friend of Cyrus Curtis, suggested to the Lighthouse Service where the plaque honoring Curtis with the name change should be placed on the lighthouse keeper’s house. However, Harold King, of the Lighthouse Commissioner’s Office, decided that the bronze plaque should instead be placed on the tower.
