When most of us think of the Coast Guard, we think of boats and rescue helicopters. Shown here is the fire truck used by the Coast Guard to protect the Avery Point Coast Guard Base from 1944 to 1967. Look closely and you’ll see the words “United States Coast Guard” on the side of the truck. If this truck is still around, it would make a great centerpiece for a museum.
