Photo Caption:

Mr. Willard Forbes of Old Trap, Camden County, NC holds a photograph of the Wade Point Screwpile Lighthouse, identical to the North River Screwpile Lighthouse. Joseph Forbes Mercer, Mr. Forbes’ grandfather, was Keeper at both light stations. It was damaged in 1918; sold to the Dare County School System, and moved to Rodanthe in 1920 to be used as a schoolhouse. Jackie Farrow Wenberg attended that school during the 1940s and 1950s. She is holding a photograph of the school as it appeared then. Now the structure, with modifications, is the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Center. Mr. Forbes and Mrs. Wenberg are standing on the porch of the 1911 Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station. The Community Center, directly across the street, can be seen partially in the background between Forbes and Wenberg.
