Frederic W. Morong, Jr. was on a first name basis with the lighthouse keepers along the coast of New England. He followed in his father's footsteps and joined the Lighthouse Service in 1922. He served first as a mechanic, later as the District Machinist, and later as an Inspector. He was one of the "roving specialists" who went from lighthouse to lighthouse. At the kitchen table at Maine's Little River Lighthouse Station he wrote the famous poem, "Brasswork: The Lighthouse Keepers Lament."
