Exactly what the laborers from the U.S. Lighthouse Service tender anchored in the harbor at Little River Lighthouse were doing with all the cut tree wood piled up on the shore at Little River is unclear. Since the island has thousands of trees, this might have been from trees cut down to build the long walkway over the island from the boathouse to the keepers house. Whatever it was, it was labor intensive and the men were part of the team of "Roving Specialists," who worked on the lighthouses.
