Hal Biering, the 80 year old volunteer from Alabama, is shown here with Tim Harrison, reading a letter in which Biering announced that in honor of Harrison’s 60th birthday, he has donated a new boat for Little River Lighthouse that will be custom built by students at Washington Academy and will be similar to other boats they have built and are in use in the area. The new large boat, with a center console, will allow for safer transportation of people and supplies to and from the island. In turn Biering was given a hammock so he could return next year to the island and instead of working he can just rest in the hammock and enjoy the lighthouse and the island.
