The amazing Girdle Ness Lighthouse designed by famous lighthouse engineer Robert Stevenson originally had two lights; one at the top of the tower and another about one third the way up. The lower light was discontinued in 1890. The white light flashes from the top of the 121-foot tall tower can be seen for 22 nautical miles.
