Lighthouse keeper Clifton S. Morong on the steps of Perkins Island Lighthouse with sons Jerry and Bobby and the lighthouse dog. Clifton Morong was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard having served for 23 years serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. The Morongs had a type of family lighthouse dynasty. As well as serving at Perkin’s Island Lighthouse, he served at Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse (Two Lights) in Cape Elizabeth, Maine where his father Alonzo Morong had served as a keeper before him and later in life, Clifton’s son, Robert, would serve at the Cape Elizabeth Coast Guard Station. Clifton Morong also served at Race Point Lighthouse on Cape Cod and Portland Head Light in Maine. He was a member of the Lubec, Maine, Congregational Church, and a founder of the Lubec, Maine Ambulance Corp. Clifton passed away on May 15, 2003.
