Charles Boshka and his bride Mollie were married at Wisconsin's Pilot Island Lighthouse in April of 1898 where he had served as an assistant keeper since 1892. He later served at Plum Island Lighthouse until his retirement in 1925. We can only wonder how he would have felt when the Coast Guard boarded up the lighthouses where he and his family had served so faithfully. What would he say today knowing that the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service owned the island? One thing we do know; he would be happy that a group like the Friends of Plum and Pilot Islands have stepped forward to restore and save the lighthouses where he so faithfully served, all while coexisting in harmony with the island's wildlife.
