This Search-Light, mounted on the roof of the Manufacturers and Liberal Arts Building at the Columbian Exposition of 1893, was more powerful than any lighthouse lens. Although it attracted wide attention from the military, at the conclusion of the Columbian Exposition of 1893 it was sold to a wealthy businessman who moved it to California where it was eventually placed atop Mt. Lowe.
