The renovated Long Beach Bar Lighthouse looked quite different in 1926 when its steel legs were removed and a concrete basement was installed. Note the fog bell at the front of the lighthouse. Barely visible, in this never before published photograph, on the cement pier of lighthouse are lighthouse keeper William Follett, his wife Atta and their grandsons Bill and Warren Allen along with the lighthouse dog. A number of lighthouses around the country were built of a similar design. The lighthouse was destroyed in a fire in 1963. (Photograph courtesy Bob Allen.)
