Santa does not always wear a red suit and travel by sleigh as is shown here. The Friends of Flying Santa of the lighthouses recently made a bus trip to visit Maine’s historic lighthouses. Along the way they stop for a shopping spree at Lighthouse Depot, “The World’s Largest Lighthouse Gift Store,” in Wells. George Morgan, the Flying Santa, is shown here waving goodbye, as he is leaving the Lighthouse Depot. He said he’d have stayed longer than the two- hours he was there but the people on the bus ran out of money. Plus, he thought the elves back home might not be feeding the reindeer properly. Rudolph had emailed him a complaint.

George Morgan and the Friends of the Flying Santa are keeping alive a lighthouse tradition that goes back to the 1920’s. Look for the full story in the December issue of Lighthouse Digest.
