Shown here is a rare photograph of the Lynde Point Lighthouse in Old Saybrook, CT, also known as the Saybrook Inner Lighthouse. This photo shows the old keeper’s house, which was torn down in 1966, and an unusual bell tower.
The lighthouse located on the west side of the entrance to the Connecticut River on the northern shore of Long Island Sound was built in 1838 to replace an earlier octagonal wood-framed tower. The tower is still owned and operated by the United States Coast Guard.
