Travelers who want to avoid driving from Boston, MA or Portland, Maine to Wells, Maine to visit Lighthouse Depot can now take the new Amtrak “Downeaster.”

The new passenger train features extra large reclining seats, drop down tabletops for eating or ready and a fully equipped snack and sandwich car.

This sign was put up on a storage trailer facing the railroad tracks behind Lighthouse Depot, “The World’s Largest Lighthouse Gift Store” for all to see who traveled the train on its first days of operation.

This story appeared in the June 2002 edition of Lighthouse Digest Magazine. The print edition contains more stories than our internet edition, and each story generally contains more photographs - often many more - in the print edition.
