People came from as far away as Wales, Australia, Scotland and Spain to participate in the New Jersey Lighthouse Challenge 2002. That’s what we call a successful event.
Rick Weber, coordinator of the event, said the final tally showed that more than 19,000 visits were made to the eleven lighthouses during the weekend event. A total of 956 people actually completed the Challenge and were presented with cards of completion. There were 2,670 volunteer hours put into the event by the New Jersey Lighthouse Society, with some help from other lighthouse groups, which did not include the hours spent planning the event.
