Artists and sponsors of the Lighthouses on Parade project got one chance only to view all the completed lighthouses of the community arts project that will raise money for Maine nonprofit organizations.
The preview party, attended by hundreds, was the only time that all of the lighthouses will be displayed at one location until they are auctioned off on September 19.
The primary sponsor of Lighthouses on Parade is Hannaford Brothers a large supermarket chain with numerous stores throughout Maine and New England. They were formerly known as Shop N’ Save. Fifty percent of the money from the auction will divided among three Maine non-profits already chosen and the balance will go to the non profit chosen by the person who wins the lighthouse in the auction.
The lighthouse will be on display at nearly 70 locations in southern Maine from Wells, to slightly north of Portland. Four lighthouses will be displayed in Wells, Maine; at Spencer Press, Hannaford Supermarket and Lighthouse Depot. On display at Lighthouse Depot will be their “Undercover Lighthouse” and Harbour Lights’ “Cape Ape.” The American Lighthouse Foundation Lighthouse, named “Ye Beacons,” designed by artist John Byrne, will first be displayed at Hannaford in Wells.
The beautiful hardcover book “Lighthouses on Parade” which depicts all of the lighthouses in the program and an extensive historical section on Maine’s lighthouses with rare and unusual photographs is available at the Lighthouse Depot retail store and through its website at www.LighthouseDepot.com
