The First Day of Issue of the third in a series of lighthouse postage stamps took place at Georgia’s historic Tybee Island Lighthouse, which is one of the lighthouses featured on the new postage stamps.
The other lighthouses featured on the new postage stamps include Old Cape Henry Lighthouse, Virginia; Cape Lookout Light, North Carolina; Morris Island, South Carolina, and Hillsboro Light, Florida.
The ceremony, held under a bright blue sunny sky, was attended by stamp collectors and lighthouse enthusiasts from all over the world. Naturally everyone wanted first day of issue cachet envelopes, which are highly coveted by stamp collectors and lighthouse buffs.
Because of press deadlines and time constraints, we are unable to get the full story of the event and the events at the other lighthouses in this issue. We apologize for this, but since we are a monthly magazine, we were unable to obtain a later press print time, and more information on the lighthouse postage stamps will appear in the next issue.
