Throughout the country there are a number of Harbour Lights Collectors Clubs. These are not simply clubs that sit around and talk about their Harbour Lights collections, but instead they are highly active clubs that visit lighthouses and work toward their preservation.
One such active group is the Tampa Bay Harbour Lights Collectors Club of Tampa Bay Florida. Last year the group took a highly successful and fun filled trip to West Coast lighthouses that exceeded everyone’s expectations. Some of the highlights of the trip included a climb to the top of Alcatraz Lighthouse, standing on the walkway at Point Sur Light in 52-mile per hour winds and a beautiful sunset at Point Bonita Light.
After all the expenses of the trip were paid for, the group found that they had extra money left over. At a recent board meeting they voted to donate those funds and an additional $3,000 from the clubs treasury to the Point Sur, Point Cabrillo and Point Arena lighthouses.
