Shown here are Charles Boshka and his bride Mollie Friis from a late 1890’s photo. They were married at Wisconsin’s Pilot Island Lighthouse in April of 1898 where Charles had served as an assistant keeper since 1892.

He later went on to serve as a keeper at Pottawatomie (Rock Island) Light from 1902 through 1911. From there he went on to serve at Plum Island Light near Gills Rock, Wisconsin where he retired in 1925.

Our thanks go to Bill Olson for sending us the photo courtesy of Keeper Boshka’s granddaughter and grandson Connie Sena and Wayne Boshka.

Preserving and publishing photos like these play a significant role in the saving of lighthouse history in one central archive for future generations. If you have old vintage photos of lighthouse, keepers and family members please share them by sending them to the American Lighthouse Foundation, P.O. Box 889, Wells, ME 04090.
