The lighthouses approved for transfer and their new owners are:
Cape Neddick Light (Nubble Light) to the town of York
Curtis Island Light to the town of Camden
Deer Island Thorofare Light to the Island Heritage Trust
Fort Point Light to the State of Maine, Bureau of Parks and Land
Goat Island Light to the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust
Monhegan Island Light to the Monhegan Historical & Cultural Museum
Nash Island Light to the Friends of Nash Island
West Quoddy Light to the State of Maine, Bureau of Parks & Land
Whitehead Island Light to the Pine Island Camp
Whitlocks Mill Light to the St. Croix Historical Society
Each group or town selected for ownership of a lighthouse under this plan will be responsible financially for maintenance, keeping the station open to the public and not be allowed to historically alter the property.
The selection committee still needs to decide ownership of ten other lighthouses and the old Manana Island Fog Signal Station.
The Maine Lights Program is the largest transfer of government lighthouse property in the history of the United States.
