With the summer months now upon us, many are probably thinking about all the projects that need to be done around the house; painting, cleaning the garage, washing the windows, working in the garden, or the fun things about summer such as trips to the beach, swimming in the pool, playing golf or tennis, long walks, a visit to the zoo and naturally those visits to your favorite ice cream shop.

However in spite of all the things that need to be done or you want to do, why not plan some weekend jaunts to a lighthouse or plan a family vacation to visit some lighthouses.

While its true that the price of gas may be high, I would encourage our readers to not be deterred by this. Perhaps, instead of visiting the fast food places, why not pack a picnic basket and take it to the lighthouse. A picnic basket rather than fast food might even offset the cost of the high price of gas. Besides, family vacations and short trips to lighthouses can be educational as well as beneficial for the entire family. After all, what could be more wholesome than visiting lighthouses as a family?

Lighthouses are part of history. Most lighthouses are located in beautiful settings. Some have wonderful museums, some even have gift shops and many are located in wonderful communities with parks, quaint shops and galleries. And you might even meet other nice people who love lighthouses.

Have a safe summer and please take some time now to plan a family outing or a trip to visit our historic lighthouses.
