Who Are the Heroes?

By Timothy Harrison

Comments?

We’ve all read about the heroes and heroines of lighthouse history. In fact some of the stories have been told over and over so many times that even the lighthouse novice knows some of them by heart.

But what about today’s lighthouse heroes?

I’m talking about the modern day lighthouse volunteer heroes, the men and women who give selflessly of their unpaid time to help restore a lighthouse or help to manage a lighthouse organization. They are the guides at lighthouses, museum docents, the people who keep the books, write a newsletter, research the history, paint the house, mow the lawn, organize fund raising events, run the gift shop, do the mailings, or fill the mail orders.

We want to know about those people. If you know of someone that you feel should be honored in the pages of Lighthouse Digest, send us their photo and some information on what they do and we’ll see to it that they are honored in the pages of Lighthouse Digest.

We need your help to honor today’s modern lighthouse heroes, the lighthouse volunteers. Write to me, Tim Harrison, Lighthouse Digest, P.O. Box 250, East Machias, ME 04630.

I’m waiting for your mail!
