Start ‘em early

Comments?

My youngest grandson, Austin, is not yet two-and-a-half-years old. Somehow, though, he has acquired an amazing interest in lighthouses.

When he comes to our house, the first thing he does is walk across the living room to the coffee table where I have the latest issue of Lighthouse Digest laying. He leafs all the way through it, pointing out each lighthouse saying, “dere one.” Each one. Yes, even including those in the advertisements and the tiny lighthouse icons at the end of each story and at the top corner of the pages.

He also loves looking at the lighthouse replicas that I have around the house and the one on the front porch and one in the shrub bed.

Nothing like starting them out early!!

We agree. After all, the children of today are the next generation of keepers who will care for and protect what we have started.
