As time goes on, more and more of our nation's lighthouse history disappears and is lost forever. On the opposite side there is also history, once thought to be lost, suddenly resurfaces, as was the case of this old original photo recently donated to us.
The photograph is of lighthouse keeper Larnet Hall, Jr., which was donated by Charles DeLoach of Marietta, Georgia.
Hall served as the lighthouse keeper of Ned's Point Lighthouse in Massachusetts from 1849 to 1853 and again from 1859 to 1874.
The photography studio of Jenney & Smith of 52 Purchase Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts took the photograph.
The question is what type of uniform is he wearing in this photograph? It certainly is not a lighthouse keeper's uniform. If any of our readers can help, please contact us at Editor, Lighthouse Digest, P.O. Box 250, East Machias, ME 04630 or email editor@LighthouseDigest.com.
