Shown here from an antique postcard, is a picture ...

We have been trying for some time to locate some historical information on this lighthouse. The National Archives does not have any information and the Philadelphia Historical Society said they were unable to find a mention of it in some old City Council minutes about some river work. What happened to the lighthouse? What's the history behind it? Was it built by the city? Was it a private aid to navigation or just ceremonial? If any of our readers can help us, please write to Lighthouse Digest, Box 1690, Wells, Maine 04090.

This story appeared in the April 1998 edition of Lighthouse Digest Magazine. The print edition contains more stories than our internet edition, and each story generally contains more photographs - often many more - in the print edition.
