The Pacific Lighthouse Postage Stamps were honored in series of ceremonies held around the country this past June. The official “First Day of Issue” Ceremony was held at scenic coastal community of Westport Washington home of the Grays Harbor Lighthouse.

“First Day of Sale”, which is slightly different that “First Day of Issue”, ceremonies were held in Juneau, Alaska, for the Five Fingers Lighthouse, Crescent City, California for the St. George Reef Lighthouse, at Oregon’s Umpqua River Lighthouse and in Hawaii for the Diamond Head Lighthouse where the stamp unveiling was led by Rear Admiral, Sally Brice-O’Hara, Commander of the 14th Coast Guard District.

The “First Day of Issue” ceremonies were held in Westport, Oregon where local Postmaster, Anne Gabriel, served as the Master of Ceremonies and United States Postal Service Seattle District Manager Harold J. Matz provided the official dedication. Among the many featured speakers were Elinor DeWire, lighthouse historian, author and president of the Washington Lightkeepers Association, who said. “Each time someone places a lighthouse stamp on a letter, the beauty and beneficence of these structures is made manifest.”
