The annual celebration at Maine's West Quoddy Head Light, the eastern most lighthouse in the United States drew a large crowd to honor the memory of CWO Kenneth Black, who was known to most as "Mr. Lighthouse."
The event, honoring Black with a special postal cancellation that was available at the event, was the idea of Ron Pesha, president of the West Quoddy Head Light Keepers Association. Pesha said it was a fitting tribute to a man who did so much to save lighthouse artifacts for future generations as is obvious by the large display at the Maine Lighthouse Museum. He also noted that West Quoddy Head Light was under Ken Black's jurisdiction when he was Group Commander and pointed out that just about everyone who knew Black, knows that West Quoddy Head Light was his favorite lighthouse.
During the ceremony, Timothy E. Harrison, president of the American Lighthouse Foundation, (ALF), presented Pesha with an ALF logo hat of the exact same type that Ken always wore as a thank you to Ron's efforts in working to preserve Ken's legacy.
Before and after the ceremony the crowd was treated to a variety of entertainment, food some great raffle prizes.
