An old photograph of a previously unknown lighthouse keeper in the files of Lighthouse Digest has now been identified as that of Roscoe G. Johnson who served as an assistant keeper at Libby Island Lighthouse in Maine from 1894 to 1896, then as head keeper at Little River Lighthouse from 1986 to 1898 and then again at Libby Island as head keeper from 1898 to 1901.

The original photograph was found in a Florida antique show over 10 years ago and was purchased by Bill Csatary of Ohio and a copy has been in the archives of Lighthouse Digest ever since. A story about the mystery photo in Maine newspapers led to the identification of the photograph. The photo was positively identified by Purcell Corbett and Neil Corbett of Cutler, Maine as their grandfather.

This story appeared in the November 2007 edition of Lighthouse Digest Magazine. The print edition contains more stories than our internet edition, and each story generally contains more photographs - often many more - in the print edition.
