Built on Eugene Island in 1916, where the dredged channel to the Atchafalaya River cut through Point Au Fer Reef (originally known as Point DeFer) was the well-suited and architecturally aesthetic Point Au Fer Lighthouse. The lighthouse was deactivated in 1975 and was subsequently destroyed and seems to have been forgotten about.

We are looking for photographs of the lighthouse keepers and stories associated with this lighthouse. If any of our readers can help us, please write Editor@LighthouseDigest.com or mail Editor, Lighthouse Digest, P.O. Box 250, East Machias, ME 04630.
