By any standards the Punta Lava Lighthouse on the west side of La Palma Island in the Canary Islands is a remarkable tower. If you look closely you will see the stairway through the many windows that lead to the top. The 157 foot tall structure was built in 1992.
There are no grounds as such, just scrubland around the lighthouse. Although the grounds to the lighthouse are open to the public, the tower is not. Approach to the lighthouse is through banana groves over a terrible road.
