Shown here in this vintage photograph are Bill and Mary Bennetts, who were the first people to live at Michigan’s Sand Hills Lighthouse where Bill served as the first head lighthouse keeper from 1919 to 1939.
Proving that history does repeat itself, the current owners of the magnificently restored lighthouse, Bill Frabotta and Mary Mathews have the same first names.
Sand Hills Lighthouse is located 25 miles northeast of Houghton, Michigan on the Keweenaw Peninsulas north shore. The lighthouse, with its elegantly furnished rooms, is now available for overnight stays as a bed and breakfast.
