Michigan Governor Releases Statement on Lighthouse Museum Decision

Comments?

Vows Michigan will still have a lighthouse museum.

Immediately following the selection of Staten Island, New York as the site for a national lighthouse museum, Michigan Governor John Engler released the following statement regarding the National Lighthouse Center and Museum process:

"I would like to congratulate and thank the people of Mackinaw City, and particularly thank the members of the museum committee who represented the state so well during the museum selection process. I continue to believe this project is an excellent tourism opportunity for the State of Michigan.

While the members of the national museum committee narrowly selected another site, the State of Michigan stands by its commitment to assist the museum project in Mackinaw City. The State of Michigan will move full speed ahead with its commitment to the people of Mackinaw City in making this project a reality."
