Now here’s something you won’t see anywhere else than in Whittier, Alaska. This train caboose was built in 1949 by Pacific Car and Foundry of Renton, Washington and used by the Alaska Railroad until the 1990s when it was retired from service and acquired by the City of Whittier.

On June 16, 2001 Coast Guard Station Whittier was commissioned and ever since then “The Caboose” has been a popular tourist attraction. (Photograph by Judy Lemon.)
