This great cover of the Number 1 issue of the short-lived Hand of Fate comic book series by Eclipse Comics was issued in February of 1988. The lame story tells of a lighthouse keeper who is enjoying his solitary life at a remote lighthouse when he is lured to his death while mistakenly thinking he was trying to save a beautiful drowning female.

It turns out the female was a mermaid who wanted the lighthouse keeper for eternity. The story ends with the unmanned lighthouse still shining its beam to sea, void of human life. The best part of the comic book is the great artwork.

Comic books with a lighthouse on the cover or with a story about a lighthouse keeper are extremely rare. However, in this economy, if you can find one, it can be purchased and added to your lighthouse collection rather inexpensively.

This story appeared in the Jan/Feb 2012 edition of Lighthouse Digest Magazine. The print edition contains more stories than our internet edition, and each story generally contains more photographs - often many more - in the print edition.
