Since 1874, the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse has been shining its beacon to mariners on the Hudson River, guiding them around the "middle ground flats." This coming year will mark the 125th anniversary of the lighthouse and the 15th anniversary of the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse Preservation Society.
The restoration project of the lighthouse, which began nearly fifteen years ago, is nearing completion and hopefully, in 1999, the lighthouse will begin a new era: that of being a lighthouse museum as well as continuing its primary function as an active aid to navigation.
However, the funds to finish the restoration project have nearly run out. In order to realize the goal of opening the lighthouse to the public for its 125th anniversary, the volunteer group needs financial help, now! If you would like to become a member, make a contribution or help in any way, please contact The Hudson-Athens Preservation Society, 2 First Street, Athens, New York 12015.
