The 1849 Palmer Island Lighthouse in New Bedford, Massachusetts looks pretty forsaken after it recently lost its lantern room. However, reportedly, there is no reason to worry. The City of New Bedford removed the lantern room for restoration and it is hoped that it will be reinstalled soon.

On September 21, 1938 when a hurricane hit New Bedford the wife of lighthouse keeper Arthur Small lost her life. In the past 40 years the lighthouse has been restored twice.
