Shown here in 1922 is the Newark Beacon, in Newark Bay, New Jersey, an aid to navigation that was most likely maintained by a person who was called a lamplighter. Maintaining the aid to navigation required rowing out to it, and one of the men took a moment to pose for a photograph.
