Canada’s Panmure Island Lighthouse Association is to be congratulated for being honored with a Heritage Award presented to them in recognition of their major restoration of the lighthouse located in the province of Prince Edward Island. The award was presented to them by Frank Lewis, the Lt. Governor of Prince Edward Island.
In December of 2015, the group got ownership of the 1853 lighthouse from the Canadian government, and they immediately went to work on a total restoration of the historic structure.
Some of the work included, but not limited to, removal of all asbestos, interior walls stripped down to the original timbers, restoration of the staircase, updating of the electoral system, replacement of rotted windows, refabricating of new iron railings, and the installation of a new parking lot.
