This past St. Patrick’s Day, Ireland’s Fanad Head Lighthouse in County Donegal, celebrated the 200th anniversary of the day the light station was first lighted in 1817.

As well as being known for its historic role in guiding the mariner at sea, the lighthouse is noted for its stunning location and was recently listed in numerous web sites as one of the most beautiful lighthouses in the world. Automated in 1978, the restored light station is now available for self-catering accommodations. (Photo by John Eagle.)
