South Africa’s Richard’s Bay Lighthouse, shown here, is ready to topple over an eroding bluff. At the time of this writing, the lighthouse was only 10 feet away from the eroding dune and ready to topple. However, government officials moved in and removed the lantern from the tower and ordered that the tower be demolished before it could topple. Also, a process was started to install a temporary light atop a structure on the current site, but at a safe distance from the eroding bluff.
