For the past nine years Hollywood Casino in Bangor, Maine has sponsored a canned food sculpture to benefit United Way’s Neighbors United Initiative. The 2018 sculpture, created by Allison Strange, a graduate of the Master of Fine Arts program in Intermedia from the University of Maine, was of a lighthouse. This was the 9th year that Allison Strange created a nonperishable food sculpture for the casino.
The 9-foot-tall lighthouse was created using almost 2,000 cans of various types of red and white labeled Campbell’s Soup. The cupola of the lantern has shingles that were made from Earl Grey Tea Bags and the door at the base of the tower was made from a giant Hershey’s chocolate candy bar. The lantern has a revolving light and the windows in the tower were lighted.
The sculpture was located on the gaming floor of the casino for players to enjoy while they played throughout the season. When dismantled the food went to the United Way’s Neighbors Initiative. (Courtesy Hollywood Casino.)
